How an infant responds to their environment changes rapidly during the preterm neonatal period. The development of sensory and nociceptive processing in newborn infants is not well characterised. Better understanding of the impact of premature birth on functional brain development is essential.

The aim of this project was to map the longitudinal development of sensory evoked brain activity in prematurely born infants, and to examine how early life experience may alter the evolution of these responses. We recently published this work in Neuroimage: Clinical.
