SSNAP

SSNAP (Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents) is a charity based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, which is dedicated to supporting the families of sick and premature babies. SSNAP provide both emotional and practical support for families, and play an important role in supporting the Paediatric Neuroimaging group's research.

SSNAP’s goal is to endorse research which develops lasting care for babies and their treatment in neonatal units. We are incredibly grateful that SSNAP has provided funding to support a Paediatric Neuroscience Research Fellowship, which has been awarded to Dr Eugene Duff.

SSNAP provides insight into how parents perceive our research work. The collaboration between SSNAP and our research group ensures that our work is motivated by parents and is mindful of parents’ priorities for their babies.

SSNAP provide critical support for our research. In particular, SSNAP support the group’s work to ensure better understanding of infant pain, with the aim of having a global impact on the care of newborn infants.

Some examples of how SSNAP support our work are:

• Funding fellowships with the Paediatric Neuroimaging group
• Acting as co-applicants for research grants
• Reviewing the information we present to parents for ongoing research projects
• Endorsing study materials
• Reviewing and critically appraising publications
• Identifying volunteers who are keen to promote our research or become members of research steering committees
• Providing parents’ insight into the development of new studies
• Advising on disseminating research findings to parents
