Paediatric Neuroimaging Group
The Paediatric Neuroimaging Group was established in 2013. Led by Professor Rebeccah Slater, it brings together scientists, clinicians, and engineers to further our understanding of early human brain development. The group is based in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Oxford, and is situated in the Women's Centre in the John Radcliffe Hospital.
The Paediatric Neuroimaging Group is a unique research environment which integrates a major Children's Hospital with advanced medical imaging, clinical trials, neuroscience and ethics expertise. Our aim is to improve understanding of human brain development. We have particular focuses on better understanding the development and treatment of infant pain, and understanding the impact of apnoea on the developing brain.
The Paediatric Neuroimaging Group brings together experts from the Departments of Paediatrics and Engineering, John Radcliffe Newborn Care Services, Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging (WIN), National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit (NPEU) and the Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics.
Key aims of the group are to:
(i) design high-quality interdisciplinary neonatal research and clinical trials
(ii) share neonatal brain imaging data across disciplines
(iii) develop the next generation of academic clinicians and scientists
(iv) enhance science communication and public engagement.
Our research generates public interest and challenges medical assumptions. The team frequently take part in public engagement activities. We visit festivals, run school workshops, and give talks at public events. We place great emphasis on providing opportunities for early career researchers. Get in touch if you want to know more.
