Paediatric Anaesthetist interested in understanding how to improve pain treatment in children
Dr Richard Rogers is a Consultant NHS paediatric anaesthetist based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, with specialist experience in anaesthesia for paediatric neurosurgery and scoliosis surgery.
Richard collaborates with research groups across the University and is particularly interested in the use of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) to understand acute pain and analgesics in adults and children, how breathing is controlled, how anaesthetics work and what anaesthesia tells us about the difference between consciousness and unconsciousness.
working with the Paediatric Neuroimaging Group has taught me more about what 'pain' means compared with nociception in preverbal babies- Richard Rogers
Richard is interested in research that has clinical pertinence, that develops from a dialogue between scientists and clinicians and is conducted with a rigorous scientific framework.
